The Family Album Series was influenced by the article Remembrance, The Child I Never was, written by Annette Kuhn. In her article, she writes how the person who takes a family photograph manipulates the actual memory of the event. I was interested to see how my mother and I remembered different events of my childhood. My mother’s personality and need to remember occurrences in a light manner, dramatically contrast my brutal observant eye that I had as a child. By putting my mother’s writing next to my writing about the same photograph, it demonstrates how two people can remember dissimilar memories about the same photograph.
